For the past three years Avon House has been working with Sports for Schools to help promote elite athletes who were training for London 2012. This year we were delighted to learn that Olympic diver Pete Waterfield would be visiting our school on Monday, 4th March.
On a bright afternoon Pete explained to the school how rigorous his training has to be to compete at world championship level. He brought his Athens 2004 Olympic silver medal and Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medal for the children to see.
After his demonstration it was time for us to show just how fit we all were by undertaking a sponsored challenge. Taking on four exercises in rotation to music, the staff and children from the youngest to the oldest raised money to be split between school funds and the training of future Olympic athletes.
Our sponsored challenge has so far raised £1,130 which we hope will help make a difference.
