Early Years Nursery Rhyme Week

Our Early Years Foundation Stage held a Nursery Rhyme Week last week filled with different activities.

In Foundation 1 the children built their own Hickory Dickory clock towers using wooden bricks, plus a huge one outside in the playground. They made some Humpty Dumpty masks and read and acted out the story of Little Lumpty (Humpty Dumpty’s nephew) and also had great fun putting Humpty Dumpty in different positions on his famous wall using lots of positional language. For Mary, Mary Quite Contrary they made silver bell biscuits, while marshmallows and liquorice became Incy Wincy Spiders. They can now sign (BSL) as well as sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

In Foundation 2 the children looked closely at a different nursery rhyme each day, including Mary, Mary Quite Contrary, Humpty Dumpty, Hickory Dickory Dock, Incy Wincy Spider and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and linked these to activities in school. They really enjoyed making cheese star biscuits during the cooking session on Wednesday. The children have also been busy in their creative sessions using their hand prints to design spiders which they have cut out to display in the class room.

All in all a busy and fun-filled week, culminating in the children dressing up as nursery rhyme characters on the Friday. Many thanks to all the parents for their continued support and for helping to find the children a costume.
