On Monday, 9th February, the choir assembled in the music room at 8.45 am for what would be their final run through before competing in two classes at the Stratford and East London Music Festival.
We arrived at St Mary’s Church Woodford with a few minutes to spare, and the children couldn’t help but be impressed by the space in which they were about to sing. When our turn came, we sang Sussex Carol and Carol of the Bells (arranged by D. Jones), which the choir had performed in their annual Christmas Carol Service. Both these songs were in two parts, which the children managed successfully, and we had a live accompaniment provided by Mr D Cook, which was very well received.
It was a great achievement to win the competition (for the second year running), and the adjudicator commented on how well controlled the choir’s singing was, and that it imparted a rhythmic drive and vitality.
