Another fun packed, thrilling week at Avon House – the school were celebrating Olympic week in style. Firstly each class chose a country to represent and we all made our own flags ready for the opening ceremony. Year 3 started off the ceremony with a song they have been learning in French about the Olympics. Following this the children marched around with their class, whilst listening to some Brazilian samba music.
On Wednesday we had a special visit from Carol Lewis who was a torch bearer at the 2012 London Olympics. The children got to re-enact the day as if they were running with the Olympic torch. The children’s faces were so amazed when they got to hold the Olympic torch.
Thursday was like a dream come true for the children and some of the teachers! In the morning, after some heavy unloading, 10000+ pieces of Lego arrived. Throughout the day the children were involved in making the London Olympic park. They thoroughly enjoyed it and as I said, so did a lot of the teachers. The end product was an excellent piece of art created by the whole school.
Finally we finished the week with a mini Avon house Olympics with our annual sports day. The children all competed in an event and thankfully the weather stayed good for us considering the weather report being rain all day.
