On Thursday 16th March the U7 Boys 5 a-side football squad went with Mr Bowers to the Bobby Moore Power League Centre in Barnet to play in the London North ISA competition.
In our first appearance in this event last year, after a shaky start, the team went on to win the Shield in the Consolation event and we were resigned to having an emptier trophy cabinet, having had to return the Shield to the organisers before play started.
There was no need to mope, as this year the team went so much further and overcame eighteen other sides to win the whole competition and become champions, returning with a large silver cup !
The team of Callum, Zain, Stephen, William, Charlie, Eisa and Sahib were unbeaten all day.
In the group stage they beat Mulberry House 2-0 and repeated that score line against Lyonsdown B team. They beat Kings House 2-0 again and then drew 2-2 against Oaklands to finish top of the group.
In the semi-finals they overcame Maple Walk 4-2 to reach the final where they faced Knightsbridge.
The final was a tense and exciting affair with Avon House trailing 1-0 before substitute Eisa scored a priceless equaliser to take it to a penalty shootout, which as so often is the case, saw a goalkeeper become the hero.
Callum, in his first tournament as a goalkeeper, saved a couple of penalties before slotting away the decisive penalty himself to clinch a 3-2 shootout victory and prompt jubilant celebrations.
The whole squad were outstanding with Charlie scoring most of the goals and Stephen proving solid in defence. William’s energy and pace, Zain’s enthusiasm and Sahib’s tackling all contributed to our success.
Thank you to our travelling contingent of supportive parents and well done to Mr Bowers and the successful squad.
