On Wednesday 22nd March we competed in the WGPS Inter School Cross-Country Meeting which entailed two laps from Woodford Green Cricket Club pavilion and round the Winston Churchill Statue, a distance of about 1400 metres.
There were four races, Under 9 Girls, Under 9 Boys, Under 11 Girls and Under 11 Boys; with six runners in a team and the first four scoring.
Five other schools competed, the hosts Woodford Green Prep, Bancroft’s, St Aubyns, Braeside and Normanhurst.
Thankfully the heavy rain earlier in the day stopped and the sun tried to emerge just as the event got underway but conditions were to prove slippery!
Despite falling flat on their faces at the start, and trailing at the back of the pack, both Sheni and Yusuf finished in the top ten in the U11 Boys race to be our leading individual performers. However the best team performance was by our U9 Girls squad of Aina, Dannika, Anjani, Humaira, Mariam and Simreth who came 3rd and duly received Bronze medals at the award presentation.
When all the events were totalled up, Avon House came 4th out of six schools, behind Bancroft’s with St Aubyns beating Woodford Green Prep to the title.
Well done to all our runners and a big thank you to the parents who came along to support – it is greatly appreciated.
