On Thursday 19th October, the pre-prep department had a special themed day to celebrate the Hindu festival of Diwali. The day started with a wonderful Diwali assembly from both Year Two classes, where the children explained the meaning behind the festival of Diwali, acted out the story of Rama and Sita, as well as showing everyone how Hindus celebrate Diwali. After assembly, the children took part in different Diwali themed workshops, then completed a range of activities in their classroom, including creating mehndi patterns and moulding and decorating clay diva lamps. The children had a special themed lunch, before completing a variety of activities in the afternoon. The children worked in mixed aged groups between the seven classes, from age three to age seven and rotated, with the older children in the Pre-Prep supporting our youngest learners with their activities. The children really enjoyed creating their own Rangoli patterns on paper and icing them on biscuits and then decorated their own thali plates. The children worked well in their mixed aged groups to support each other in developing a range of different skills. The day resulted in an exciting and enjoyable learning experience for all the children.
