On Tuesday, 24th September, Year 6 visited the Churchill War Rooms, part of the Imperial War Museum, to support their learning on the Second World War.

Following the success of Take One Picture 2012, Avon House Prep School embarked on its latest project with The National Gallery. This year’s painting ‘Bathers at Asnières’ by George Seurat gave the pupils plenty to think about.
All pupils in Years 1-6 visited The National Gallery where a very interesting talk was given by the museum. Every class looked at a different aspect of the painting from making paper boats to recreating the bridge and steam train. Several children went home to ask their parents what they knew about ‘pointillism’ the process that Seurat favoured. Continue reading
On 19th September Foundation 1 and 2 travelled by coach to Chelmsford Theatre to see ‘The Snail and the Whale’. It was funny and we were sprayed with water during the performance.
The story tells about a snail who meets a humpback whale and they travel to far-off lands. However, the whale becomes beached on the shore and we wonder if the snail will be able to save her new friend? The snail left a trail that would help the whale! Continue reading
