Gardening Club received a surprise visit today (Tuesday, 14th October) from the Mayor of Redbridge who came to school to present Gardening Club with third prize in the School Garden category in the Redbridge In Bloom 2014 competition. Continue reading
On Tuesday, 7th October, Year 6 visited the Churchill War Rooms to enhance their learning on the Second World War. We handled artefacts that were used during the war and discussed what we thought they were and what they may have been used for. Afterwards, we explored the Cabinet Rooms and found out lots of information by using audio guides. To finish off our trip we visited the Tower of London to view the poppy display. Continue reading
Years 3 and 4 had a great time at the Roald Dahl Museum on 6th October, despite the very wet weather! We explored the area of Great Missenden and found the grave of Roald Dahl. Clearly we weren’t the only people to have visited recently as we spotted some rather large footprints, perhaps belonging to one of his well known characters. Continue reading
On Saturday evening the Avon House School choir opened the Woodford Youth Festival Concert at All Saints’ Church. The children performed three of the pieces which had won them first prize at the Stratford and East London Festival back in February this year. We had a wonderful evening and received many compliments. Continue reading
On Thursday, 2nd October, ten children from the Prep Department were chosen to represent Avon House in the Primary Schools Cross Country event at Claybury Park. These races take place over three consecutive Thursdays. All the children ran really well but a special mention for Aliza (Year 6) who came second in her race beating about seventy other girls. We wish the team the best of luck for the following two weeks.
Year 4 spent the afternoon of Thursday, 2nd October, experiencing how Jewish people celebrate Shabbat (their Sabbath). Continue reading

What a delicious, Dahlicious day was to be had at Avon House on Friday, 28th September.
Staff and pupils from across the school dressed up as Roald Dahl book characters to raise money for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Raising just under £200 for such a good cause will hopefully make a difference to sick children in the UK. Continue reading
