Inter-House Connect 4 Tournament

During construction games we have been teaching the children in Years 1 and 2 to play Connect 4.  First they started playing within their own year groups, playing against each other within their house groups to select the players for the next round.  The game taught them not only how to play strategically and to carefully consider their moves before playing, but it also helped them to understand how to both win and lose a game graciously. ISA Hockey – Regional Runners Up!

Avon House’s hockey team continued its excellent run by finishing second in Friday’s ISA Tournament at Old Loughtonians’ state of the art facility.

Foundation 1 Bus Trip to Cakes & Shakes

Foundation 1 had a great time at Cakes & Shakes on Wednesday, 12th March.  We went on the bus to Loughton and we sang some of our favourite songs to the passengers who enjoyed listening to us.  Of course, we sung “The wheels on the bus” at the request of the bus driver!   We had a lovely ice-cream with sprinkles and our teachers had a milk shake.  We were all on our best behaviour and the shopkeeper said we were very good.  Continue reading

Year 2 visit to the Tower of London

On Wednesday 5th March, Year 2 visited The Tower of London as we have been learning about the Great Fire of London in history.   We travelled  on the tube and when we got there, met real Beefeaters and saw the ravens that guard the tower.  After a drama session, we went to see the Crown Jewels – they were so sparkly!  Lastly, we had lunch and bought some things in the gift shop before going on a walk to Pudding Lane – the place where the fire broke out in September 1666. Helping Humpty Dumpty

Foundation 1 and 2 held two performances of their spring concert ‘Helping Humpty Dumpty’ on Tuesday 4th March.  Both shows were a sell out, packed with enthusiastic parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and representatives from Redbridge Early Years and surrounding Early Years settings.  Continue reading

Redbridge Mini Games Hockey Winners!

Avon House emerged triumphant from the Redbridge Mini Games Hockey Tournament after a nail-biting final against local rivals Bancroft’s.  Locked at 0-0 at the end of normal time, the result hinged on a penalty shoot out in which our goalkeeper, George Ratcliff, performed heroically.  Bancroft’s were unable to score a single penalty against him and this meant that Ben Myers’ converted stroke was enough to clinch the title.
