The RRS council are delighted to announce that Avon House has received its Rights Respecting School Silver award which is an initiative run by UNICEF UK. We are one of only a handful of Independent prep schools in the country to hold this award. This award which encourages schools to place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is at the heart of our ethos and curriculum. As a council we have fully embraced the convention and many of the articles are displayed in classrooms and around school. Each class has written a charter which all pupils are using as their rules for respect of each other.
The accreditation day was made up of interviews with pupils, staff, Governors and parents as well as discussing our portfolio of evidence. Many of our assemblies make reference to our rights and this has helped us adopt a clear approach to what our rights are. As a council we meet fortnightly to run initiatives including the shoe collection and look at what UNICEF is doing around the world. We are now focussing on our gold accreditation which will take about a year to achieve but as a group we are keen to achieve our goal and spread the message that in everything we do we must encourage each other and respect each other as individuals.
