Soccer Aid

Posted: 3rd May 2024

Avon House’s first ever Soccer Aid event was a scoring success! The pupils did not let the weather dampen their spirits as they participated in football skills-based activities throughout the day including highly competitive rounds of ‘beat the teacher’ and nail-bitingly close penalty shoot outs! Inside the classrooms, pupils were tasked with designing a mascot for the official Soccer Aid event with some excellent designs being submitted to Soccer Aid for consideration. Pupils also took part in a table-top football tournament within their classrooms, battling it out to find their class’ ultimate champion!

This RRS Council initiative supports Soccer Aid for UNICEF with the aim of bringing the nation together to help children worldwide have the best possible start in life. Once a year, England take on their opponents, the Soccer Aid World XI FC. Supported by passionate fans in an iconic stadium and broadcast live, the event  harnesses the power of football to help make sure that children can grow up happy, healthy and able to play.

This year’s focus is Article 31, the right to play. In every childhood, no matter where you are born or who you are, there should be opportunities to play. Children need to be healthy, safe, and nourished so they can play, learn, and get the best start in life. It’s a right, not a luxury.

By being part of Soccer Aid for UNICEF, we are joining one big team – united by a goal to help protect play for children everywhere so they can grow up happy, healthy, and ready to take on the world.

The deadline for your sponsorship forms, alongside monies raised, is Thursday 9th May. To be entered into the raffle prize draw and be in with a chance of winning our top prizes, please return your sponsorship forms before the deadline.

Pupils and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic football-filled day, raising awareness and as much money as possible for UNICEF! A big thank you to Mr Thornley and Coach K for leading the football events at The Wells with their Year 6 helpers and to all those who have donated thus far to this incredible cause.
