Breakfast
For some pupils the day starts with breakfast which is served by a team of staff in our Breakfast Club. Pupils receive a nutritious, balanced breakfast consisting of porridge, cereal, toast, yogurt and fruit.
Mid-Morning Healthy Fruit Snack
Nursery pupils are provided with a fruit snack which they are encouraged to prepare and then share with friends. The remainder of the School bring a fruit snack from home which is eaten before the mid-morning break.

Sparking Curiosity – Welcome to Citrea at Avon House School Preparatory
Citrea’s focus and the reason we exist is to:
“Spark curiosity and greater awareness of food in every child
by extending learning beyond the classroom – making it hands on and fun”
We firmly believe that a healthy and nutritious diet supports the growth, learning and development of children. Our meals meet children’s nutritional needs and help encourage and establish good eating patterns from an early age.
We start by making sure that we are buying the right ingredients for Managing Chef Mrs Fairy and her catering team to create tasty, visually appealing and nutritionally balanced meals. We insist that at least 90% of the produce that we buy utilises fresh, seasonal ingredients, locally sourced, affording full traceability.
School lunches are prepared and cooked on the premises where we produce a wide choice of food and cater for vegetarian and other special diets.
All pupils are expected to eat the lunches provided; the cost is included in the school fees.
Lunch is served in the school hall, supervised by a midday supervision team. Teachers sit with their respective classes as we encourage pupils to respect good table manners and healthy eating habits.
There are a number of interactive healthy eating activities, to ensure pupils enjoy their food, eat healthily and get the nutrition to support learning in class and fitness on the sports field (in line with article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child).
The School does not offer Halal meat due to the food preparation area not being sufficient to support multiple catering arrangements.
Citrea is proud to be the chosen catering partner of Avon House Preparatory School.
Tea Timers
Pupils using our after-school care facility are given a healthy fruit snack and water once they have been registered for out of hours care. Any pupils staying beyond 5.00pm are given a high tea consisting of a sandwich, fruit, crisps and water.
