Ice, Ice, Crazy

students doing a science experiment

As part of STEM week, our Year 4s took part in a lot of practical activities, including making ice cream. Did you know that you can make ice cream without a freezer? The children learnt that the combination of ice and salt causes a chemical reaction. When salt is added to ice cubes, the temperature of the ice drops even further allowing the ingredients to set into an ice cream consistency. Working in groups, Year 4 followed a recipe to create ice cream and then got to taste it afterwards.
