Avon House Has Talent

Pupil playing the piano

The Music Department had a very busy end of this half term. Firstly, we had 2 Teatime Concerts after school for our peripatetic students. The standard of music was extremely high which indicates the hard work that is going in to practicing by our students and also the support of our parents. Well done to all those who performed.

We also held a Performance Assembly that took place on the last Friday morning of Half Term. There was a wide diversity of talent on show from singing: Susie in Year 6, Isaac in Y1, Anna in F2 and Leela in F1. There were dances from: Eilidh and Evie in Year 3, together with Aanaya in Y1. Zariyan in Y3 recited a poem to us and there was flute playing by Maliha in Y4. Phoebe entertained us on the piano and Dhaya played the drums. Last but not least Isla in Y3 tapped danced and Liana also in Y3 gave us a gymnastics display.

A big thank you and congratulations to all the performers. It certainly showed that never mind Britain, Avon House certainly has talent!

Closure of Avon House Preparatory School

It is with much sadness that we are announcing the closure of the school with immediate effect. Avon House was founded over a hundred years ago under the name Essex House and then in the early 1950’s was renamed Avon House School. The vision for the current school was that of Sheila Ferrari who bought the school in 1970, providing a family school for pupils from 3-11 years old.

We have explored a number of options to try and save the school from closure but in recent days it became obvious that was not meant to be. The school has struggled with financial pressures including the introduction of VAT on school fees and the rise in NI and pension costs.

We have always put our pupils at the heart of school life both academically and pastorally under the banner of ‘Celebrating and supporting every child’ and we know that many pupils who have journeyed through our school have gone on to great success.

We wish all our pupils and families the best for the future as they embrace new schools in the locality.
