Avon House children experienced more women’s football history this season, attending the UEFA Champions League semi-final second-leg of Arsenal Women v VfL Wolfsburg Women. It was a record crowd for a domestic women’s game in England, with Emirates Stadium reaching full capacity of 60,063 fans. In what was a nervy match, the tie had to go to extratime to be settled with the score being 2-2 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate. VfL Wolfsburg claimed a goal in the last minute of extra-time to take the tie and progress to the final. Arsenal were bitterly unlucky on what was a fabulous occasion for women’s football
nonetheless.
