On Friday 22nd November, the History Society visited the V&A Museum in South Kensington to bring their project on the history of shoes to a conclusion. Having been working on shoes from Egyptian times through to the current day, it was good for the pupils to put perspective on materials used to the style and height of heels. For most it was their first visit to the V&A and the sheer vastness of the site was a wow! There were shoes they loved including a pair of Mary Quant plastic daddy long leg boats in lime green, to the utilitarian shoes of the 1940s which many didn’t like.
Our conclusion was that feet have grown broader and bigger over the centuries and some styles just keep coming back into fashion.
