Year 5 Educational Visit to the Gurdwara

Posted: 27th January 2026

Year 5 visited the Karamsar Gurdwara in Ilford as part of their topic work on Sikhism. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to learn more about Sikh beliefs, culture, customs and way of life. The children were highly engaged throughout the visit and asked many thoughtful and respectful questions.

As part of the experience, the children were invited to take part in langar in the langar hall, which is an important part of Sikh service and community life. The children were offered chips, beans and a drink, while the adults had the opportunity to taste a traditional meal including rice, lentils, potato curry, chapatis, yoghurt and Indian tea.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained a deeper understanding of Sikh values such as sharing, equality and community. By sharing food in the langar hall, children actively took part in a cultural and community experience.
