Soundproofing Sheeran

To conclude Year 4’s Science topic on Sound this term, the children carried out an investigation on soundproofing. They wanted to investigate the best material for soundproofing a music studio and the materials used were bubblewrap, fabric, foam and newspaper. After making predictions about which material would be most effective, they played some music (Mr. Babra & Mrs Suckling chose Ed Sheeran!) on a speaker placed in a box. They then took it in turns to wrap the materials around the speaker, then listened carefully and observed how the sound changed within the box. They discovered that the most effective material was the fabric. To finish, Year 4 then applied this knowledge by writing a letter to Ed Sheeran to tell him how he could make his studio soundproof!
