Black History Month

Posted: 4th October 2023

October sees the start of Black History Month and I firstly wanted to say a massive thank you to our parents for taking part in the Heritage interviews. These have been incredible and very enlightening. We have been sharing these with our classes and there will be soon enough a world map display, displaying all the lovely postcards you have all sent in for me.

Monday was the launch of Black History where I talked about Migration and gave the children an insight into the up-and-coming events during the month. We had our very first
Language of the month. Yasmine, our visitor, (Mrs Marday’s friend) who spoke Bravanese called Chimini, a Northern Dialect of Swahili. The children learnt to repeat some
numbers and speak some key greeting phrases in Chimini.

On Tuesday, Mrs Marday came into school to talk to our Year 4s about her personal migration journey. This was very informative, and the children were able to ask and answer
questions and locate Mrs Marday’s journey on a world map. The children enjoyed identifying different countries around the world and showing Mrs Marday where their parents may
have once lived or visited on holiday.
