Computing

At Avon House School, we pride ourselves on offering our students the opportunities to develop a strong foundation in digital learning; by integrating problem-solving and computational thinking, as well as fostering creativity and an understanding of technology’s role in society.

The curriculum here is dynamic and engaging. It is designed to build both technical proficiency and critical thinking and achieves this through integration with other curriculum areas. Students that feel confident using technology responsibly and have the skills to explore more advanced computing concepts in their future education; whilst preparing them for the digital world of tomorrow.

Be it taking a mouse for a walk in Foundation 2, an introduction to robotics in Year 2, building webpages using HTML in Year 4 or programming decision trees through Python in Year 6, the vast and varied nature of Computing at Avon House has something for everyone!

“Computing is FUN because you can use your mind in lots of different ways. Sometimes I see it as a different sort of Maths lesson. There are lots of different coding things to learn about; binary code, Scratch, HTML and Python. I love making projects in Scratch, I have even made projects at home. I think when I am older I’d like to be a computer scientist.”

“Computing to me is like a puzzle, there are lots of different ways to complete the puzzle and you have to find the one that’s best for you. I didn’t find it easy at first, but I enjoyed the lessons, then I went to Computing Club after school as I wanted to improve my skills. Going to the club after school really gave me confidence and I started experimenting with coding at home. Now I find that if things are stressful, coding calms me down.”
