Pankhurst House

Head of House: Miss Heath
House Leader: Ambika
House Colour: Orange

The Houses at Avon House Preparatory School are named after famous people with a local connection. Emmeline Pankhurst’s daughter Sylvia lived in Woodford for many years.

Every year Pankhurst supports a local charity and this year they are raising money for Uniting Friends.

Uniting Friends is a local charity that provides young people and adults with a learning disability, the opportunities to take part in social and educational activities. This support is invaluable to developing skills and enable its service users to reach their full potential and achieve independence.

In previous years they have supported the National Deaf Children’s Society for which they held a sponsored walk at the Woodford Wells Cricket Club, the Docklands Sailing & Water-sports Centre Trust, Children in Need and ELHAP.

In the 2019-2020 academic year the Pankhurst House children have performed really well in sporting events, scored highly in inter-house quizzes and won the 2020 inter-house music completion with their rendition of ‘You Give a Little Love’ from the Bugsy Malone musical.

A word from the Pankhurst 2019-2020 Captain

My name is Ambika and I am Head of Pankhurst. I am hoping that everyone in Pankhurst enjoys the challenges we will have this year and we look forward to winning and celebrating them together! I have chosen a charity called Uniting Friends. They are a charity who organise activities for adults with learning difficulties. Adults who use their services can go to a day centre where they all meet and take part in an enormous range of activities that promote personal development and independence in a fun environment. By raising money for this charity, I think we can give them more opportunities and make their facilities even better, and most importantly, they will all have a big smile on their face and be even happier!
