Today, Avon House proudly took part in vibrant Vaisakhi celebrations a major festival celebrated every year on April 13th or 14th. Vaisakhi marks both the beginning of the harvest season in Punjab and the formation of the Khalsa in Sikhism. It’s a time filled with colour, community spirit, and joy, and our school came together to honour the occasion in a truly special way.
Our talented pupils, along with their families, presented a beautiful and informative assembly that captured the heart of this important festival. It was a real treat for everyone who attended, offering an enjoyable and educational insight into the significance of Vaisakhi and the traditions that make it so special.
One of the key values we explored was Seva, which means “selfless service.” This message resonated deeply with our Avon House community, and we were overwhelmed by the generous food donations collected for the Epping Food Bank. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed – your kindness will make a real difference.
It was truly inspiring to see our very own pupils take centre stage reciting prayers, playing instruments, confidently presenting, and showcasing skills in Gatka (a traditional Sikh martial art) and Dhol drumming. Their enthusiasm and effort were simply brilliant!
A special shout-out to our amazing Diversity Council pupils, who helped load up the minivan with all the food parcels, ready for Mr Fredrick to deliver to the food bank.
We’d like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all our Avon House families for your continued support and generosity.
Happy Vaisakhi from all of us at Avon House!
