Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

Churchill

Winston Churchill was born at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire on 30th November, 1874.  His parents were Lord Randolph Churchill, a Conservative politician, and Lady Jennie Churchill, the daughter of a New York businessman.  Churchill was educated first by a governess, then at prep school and Harrow.  He did not do well at school and was considered lazy, although he did enjoy history and literature.  After Harrow he went to the Royal Military College at Sandhurst and joined the British army, seeing action on the Indian north-west frontier and in the Sudan.
