Topic Based Learning

The Key Stage One Creative Curriculum is a theme-based, appealing and stimulating approach to learning with cross-curricular opportunities created through carefully chosen topics, which change termly. This exciting method inspires the pupils to learn all the traditional subjects in the curriculum in a much more approachable and exciting manner as well as providing support and challenge for all pupils. A firm emphasis is placed upon the teaching and learning of core subjects, where the pupils have daily English and Mathematics lessons, along with two Science lessons a week.

In addition, the pupils have weekly History, Geography, RPS, PE, Spanish, Music, Art, Computing and Problem Solving and Construction lessons, some of which are taught by specialist teaching staff.

In Year 2, the pupils also have reasoning lessons. The pupils begin each term with an exciting ‘WOW’ day to immerse them in their new topic and have a ‘fabulous finale’ at the end to celebrate their learning!

The topic based learning is integrated with the National Curriculum to provide challenging and engaging lessons, as well as the flexibility to provide greater depth in key areas of learning. The pupils’ learning experiences continue to be enriched by a range of trips, activities, themed days and weeks.
