On Thursday 16th March, eight U9 boys represented AHS at a Forest School Football Tournament. Against high-quality opposition, Avon House fought hard in the initial group stages to qualify for the plate section of the tournament. This included an emphatic 3-0 win against Snaresbrook Prep along with a wonder goal from captain Jayden (4JB) in the match. In the semi-final of the plate, the school faced a well-drilled St Aubyn’s side. It was an extremely close encounter, which looked to be heading to penalties, until Kai (4JB) struck with one of the last kicks of the game to see AHS progress to the final, 1-0.
The plate final saw the school compete against Oaklands School, which was another edgy affair. Both teams struggled to make a breakthrough, until Oaklands scored from a free-kick. Jayden later came extremely close to equalising with a long-range free-kick of his own, but it wasn’t to be for Avon House. The children should be proud of their valiant efforts and can build from this in future tournaments.
