Your Voice Matters

The theme of Children’s Mental Health week is ‘Your Voice Matters.’ As part of RRS, it links to article 12, ‘You have the right to an opinion and for it to be listened to and taken seriously.’ This is something we are very passionate about at school and have fully embraced this week; promoting the children’s ability to identify their emotions and discuss why they may be feeling that way.

The children in Foundation 1 and 2 have started their journey of being able to communicate their emotions by exploring and expressing their likes and dislikes.

In Year 1 and 2, the children have been exploring their emotions, including identifying when they feel a certain emotion and the reasons why. Using the books ‘Ruby’s Worry’ and ‘Speak Out,’ the children have
had some thoughtful discussions about their feelings and the importance of speaking up and communicating how they are feeling.

All the children in the Pre-Prep have completed speech bubbles to display their voice and these will formulate a special display at school. We have also continued to focus on using our mood monsters, which the children use daily to help them with expressing their emotions, as well as practising some breathing techniques.

In the Prep school, the children have focused on the theme of using their voice to celebrating themselves and have each made a mini celebration book to record their proud moments from the week. They have also learnt about self-care, focusing on things they can do to support their mental health and well-being.
