We embraced the theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health week, ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself,’ by focusing on our pupils knowing their strengths and identifying their emotions, so that they can understand themselves and express themselves more effectively.
In the Pre-Prep, the children used the story of The Colour Monster to support them in understanding their emotions and they completed flowers that allowed them to draw themselves in the middle and then write in the petals what they’re good at and how they feel at different times. These have been displayed in our classrooms to refer to throughout the rest of the academic year.
We also explored how breathing can support our well-being and the children learnt some different breathing techniques. Similarly in the Prep, pupils learnt different breathing techniques and inspired by the quote “isn’t it odd, we can only see out outsides, but nearly everything happens on the inside,’ they focused on how they can cope with negative emotions and they created their own class jigsaws to refer to.
