Art has been the focus of Avon House School during the last week of this half term. The whole school has been learning about the art and life of William Morris. We have been designing wallpaper patterns based on our interests, printing; onto paper and material; using string and polystyrene tiles, weaving natural materials, creating stained glass window designs, understanding symmetry and repeating patterns and decorating ceramic tiles. Different year groups have been working together to inspire each other, for example Year 6 worked with early years to create enormous wallpaper style repeating patterns using a range of printing techniques. Halfway through the week, Year 2-6 went on a visit to the William Morris Gallery, which was a great success. The children had learnt enough about the life and work of William Morris prior to the visit to understand the exhibits, but still had the opportunity during the rest of the week to demonstrated how they were inspired by the outing. All the children work will be on display in the School Library for parents to view during parents evening week. Children will be able to take their work home after then.
