“Diwali is something that everyone can celebrate, and it’s a time to spend with others” – Amber 4NH
“The festival of light makes everyone happy” – Araya 4NH
“We all enjoyed the assembly and thank you to everyone who came to watch us!” – Anika 4NH
On 7th November 2018, Year 4 retold the story of Rama and Sita as part of their assembly to celebrate the festival of Diwali. Before the performance started, the children had the opportunity to discuss which articles from the Convention on the Rights of the Child linked with the celebration of the festival of lights. We spoke about articles 14 (the right to choose your own religion and beliefs), 29 (the right to education that teaches you to respect other people) and 30 (the right to practise your own culture or religion, or any you may choose). Every child in the year group had a speaking part, whether they were taking on the role of a character or narrating the story. Looking fantastic in their costumes, the children delivered their lines with confidence to the whole school and to their families.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to come and watch their performance. We would like to say a special thank you to the families who organised costumes for their children, as well as for other children in the class.
The Diwali celebrations did not stop there! All children and staff enjoyed a special Diwali lunch today, including lamb biriyani, okra and onion bhajis.
We wish all that are celebrating a very happy Diwali!
