Sunshine and Sandcastles

The Year 1 children in Pelicans and Cranes embraced their new ‘Out and About’ topic on the first day of the Summer Term by building sandcastles in the school’s playground. They were lucky that the sun paid them a visit so they could imagine being at the seaside on a warm Summer’s day! The children made flags to put on the top of their castles and decorated them with shells. What a way to start the term! The activity will also help the children in their Literacy lessons this week as they focus on instruction writing. They will be writing instructions on how to build a sandcastle, making sure to include time connectives, bossy verbs and to number each step.
