‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ – Nelson Mandela
Launching the 2023 Pankhurst charity day, Avon House had a visit from Luke Simon, the CEO of School in a Bag in our whole school assembly. He spoke passionately about the charity, the charity origins, the different places they support around the world, the contents of a ‘SchoolBag’ and how the bag and equipment supports children’s education. There were many impressed faces around the hall, both staff and children, and some staff members have been inspired to sponsor their own SchoolBags as a result.
The Pankhurst Book Sale was hosted on the school forecourt after school, on the 29th September. Ajay and Ms Heath were aided by additional keen members of Pankhurst, with the amazing array of books sorted in target audience by age. Both Ajay and Ms Heath would like to send a heartfelt big thank you to everyone for their amazing book donations. Avon House parents, pupils and staff had been beyond generous with their donations.
It was overwhelming to see so much support for the book sale and many children left with exciting new reading material for the weekend and beyond.
Ajay said, “What an amazing book sale we had, I’’m so pleased we were able to raise so much money for School in a Bag.”
The Book Sale raised £400 which means Avon House has funded 20 rucksacks for School in a Bag.
This will enable 20 children to otherwise have the resources they need to attend school. Once our bags have been allotted, we will be able to update everyone with their identification numbers and see where in the world the bags are helping.
